Who We Are

El Sueño Zapoteco A.C. / Bacaanda Foundation

We are a civil organization, an authorized donor, with more than 15 years of continuous work. Our areas of influence are the municipalities of the Sierra Sur and the Coast, in the State of Oaxaca. Operating since 2008 in Mexico as a non-profit Civil Association, in the United States and Canada as a foundation. Our headquarters are located in Bahias de Huatulco Oaxaca, Mexico and in Concord, USA.

The meaning of Bacaanda is: «Dream» in Zapotec.

Our dream is to make a difference by decreasing inequality in the countryside; for this we are committed to education as we believe it is the right way to create a better world.

Our Team

The Foundation

Our main focus is on the use of technology to improve the math and Spanish learning of children in rural schools. We seek to reduce the digital divide in more than 60 schools, directly benefiting more than 1,000 students each year. In support of this goal, we also carry out construction projects in situations where the educational environment requires improvements to school infrastructure.

We collaborate closely with each community, working to help them determine their deepest areas of need and devise achievable, practical solutions.

How do we do it?

We work in partnership with municipal authorities, parents and donors who support us. We understand that these collaborations require constant communication and a common focus on the needs of the students. We know that the installation of technological resources means nothing without the support of our team of trainers, who are our ears and eyes in the schools.

We work with communities, not for them.

Goals

– Contribute to improve the educational level
– Build and/or remodel school classrooms
– Provide school materials and furniture
– Bring Internet to more than 60 schools

Values

Solidarity – To be part of a change that eradicates inequality and raises the standard of living.

Commitment – To comply by carrying out the projects to which we have committed ourselves.

Excellence – To carry out our projects with total respect and professionalism towards people and their customs, without ever getting involved in political, religious or cultural issues.

Involvement – We solicit and value the participation of the community in the development of the projects – Without their approval, enthusiasm and volunteer work, our projects would not be carried out.

Transparency – We base our work on honesty, with full access to information to our collaborators and donors and to the tax authorities.

Collaborations – We believe, thanks to our experience, in teamwork with individuals and institutions joining efforts to obtain the desired results and above all to join the communities in their desire for progress.

Legal Documentation

As part of our transparency we make available our official documentation of public domain.

The Dream Festival

An annual event organized with great success by a group of national and international volunteers in collaboration with Fundación El Sueño Zapoteco A.C. / Bacaanda Foundation. Since its inception in 2016, this festival has become a highly anticipated event that takes place every year in January in Huatulco.

The Dream Festival is a space dedicated to raise funds in support of our various charitable causes and to disseminate information about the activities we carry out. With excellent planning and the generous support of our volunteers, friends, sponsors, donors and attendees this festival provides an opportunity to have fun for a good cause and help the most vulnerable in our society.

Throughout the afternoon, attendees can participate in various activities, enjoy delicious food and drinks, games and musical performances. The festive atmosphere and the joy of giving back to the community make the El Sueño Festival an event not to be missed.

We invite you to join us at the upcoming 2024 Festival, where you can make a difference in the lives of those in need while having a great time with friends and family. Mark your calendar and don’t miss this incredible event.

Huatulco Airport

We are pleased to share that we have the support and authorization from the management team of the Huatulco Bays Airport to install piggy banks on site. These piggy banks will allow us to raise funds for our cause and continue our efforts to support the local community.

We are very grateful for this opportunity to collaborate with the airport and have their support in our mission to have a positive impact on the lives of the most students in the rural CONAFE schools. With this initiative, we hope to expand our reach and involve more people who share our passion for giving back.

We invite all travelers passing through the Bahias de Huatulco Airport to consider making a donation to our cause through one of our piggy banks. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in the lives of those we support.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to continuing to work together to create a better future for our community.
